Deeply Rooted Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling services for healing, connection and renewal

Hi, I am Nivedita Ashok, and I am glad you are here!

At Deeply Rooted Counselling and Psychotherapy, I offer trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, client-centred counselling to people from all backgrounds, with a special focus on supporting South Asians, other immigrant communities. My clients are predominantly from Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Port Moody and Coquitlam areas within British Columbia.

My Approach

I know starting therapy isn’t easy. It takes courage to reach out—especially when you’ve been quietly carrying the weight of immigration stress, South Asian family expectations, relationship struggles, or the heaviness of anxiety, depression, or grief. Maybe you feel caught between cultures, stretched thin by caregiving roles, under pressure to keep it all together, or just tired in a way that rest can’t fix.

The first thing I want you to know is that therapy here moves at your pace. You decide what to share, when to pause, and how deep to go. My role is to create a space where you feel safe enough to speak freely, explore what’s on your mind, and be fully yourself without fear of judgment. All parts of you are welcome here—especially the ones you’ve had to hide or push away.

I’m not here to “fix” you or turn you into someone else. I believe you already hold the wisdom you need—sometimes it just takes time, safety, and the right kind of support to reconnect with it. I walk alongside you with curiosity, care, and a steady presence, offering both practical tools and honest reflection.

I draw from different approaches, always holding the body and nervous system in mind. Because healing doesn’t just happen through talking—it happens in how we notice, feel, and reconnect with ourselves. My approach blends evidence-based methods with an understanding of the cultural, relational, and personal layers that make your story unique.

As someone with Indian/South Asian heritage and global experience, I understand the nuance of bicultural identity, immigration stress, and the silence that often surrounds mental health in our communities. And while I hold that cultural awareness close, my door is open to every background, faith, gender, and orientation—because healing belongs to all of us.

At the heart of it all, I believe in the healing power of relationship. When therapy feels safe and honest, change begins to unfold in quiet, lasting ways.

Holistic Healing

At Deeply Rooted Counselling and Psychotherapy, we believe that healing is most powerful when it embraces the whole person—mind, body, spirit, and relationships. Our approach to holistic therapy honours your unique story and gently supports you through all these aspects. Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, cultural transitions, or relationship stress, we offer a space where all parts of you are welcome.

Mind

Mind

Your mind holds the stories, beliefs, and emotional patterns that shape how you see yourself and the world. In our sessions, we’ll gently explore these layers to understand how they’ve formed, and how they may be influencing your present. Through trauma-informed, mindfulness-based therapy, we’ll create space for insight, clarity, and new ways of thinking and being.

Body

Body

Our bodies remember what the mind may forget. Emotions, stress, and past trauma can live in the body long after the moment has passed. Using somatic therapy and body-based counselling, we’ll tune into the wisdom of your nervous system. Together, we’ll listen to what your body carries, support emotional release, and restore a sense of balance and grounding.

Spirit

Spirit

Your spirit is the source of meaning, purpose, and connection. It’s the part of you that longs to create, to be seen, and to feel a sense of alignment with your deeper values. Through counselling, we’ll explore what nourishes your soul and support you in reconnecting with your inner truth—whatever that may mean for you.

Relational

Relational

Healing rarely happens in isolation. It begins with how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. Whether you’re facing relationship stress, communication challenges, or cultural family expectations, we’ll explore how these dynamics shape your sense of belonging. This relational therapy process supports healthier boundaries, deeper intimacy, and more authentic connections.
