Hi, I am Nivedita Ashok, and I am glad you are here!
At Deeply Rooted Counselling and Psychotherapy, I offer trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, client-centred counselling to people from all backgrounds, with a special focus on supporting South Asians, other immigrant communities. My clients are predominantly from Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Port Moody and Coquitlam areas within British Columbia.

My Approach
My work is rooted in supporting people as they reconnect with themselves, and, in many ways, find the parts of themselves they may have lost or hidden along the way, so they can in turn create relationships that feel genuine and nourishing. Many of the individuals I meet have lived through difficult relational experiences—sometimes going back to childhood, other times shaped by being in environments where they did not feel safe, understood, or accepted. In our work together, we slowly and carefully tend to those wounds, cultivating inner safety and trust, which I see as essential for intimacy, authentic expression, and a sense of belonging.
I also hold that awareness on its own doesn’t necessarily bring about change. It’s possible to recognize a pattern, trace its origins, and still feel unable to move forward. When pain or overwhelm has been part of our history, withdrawing into thought can feel protective. Yet, real healing usually calls for more than thinking—it asks us to engage with what we feel. That’s why I guide people not only in talking through their experiences but also in processing them at a deeper level. By practising presence, attuning to the body, and meeting emotions with compassion, we can reach layers of awareness where transformation takes place. This kind of integration allows us to understand ourselves more wholly and to live with greater ease—anchored, connected, and free.

Holistic Healing
I believe that healing is most powerful when it embraces the whole person—mind, body, spirit, and relationships. My approach to holistic therapy honours your unique story and gently supports you through all these aspects. Whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, cultural transitions, or relationship stress, I offer a space where all parts of you are welcome.

Mind
Your mind holds the stories, beliefs, and emotional patterns that shape how you see yourself and the world. In our sessions, we’ll gently explore these layers to understand how they’ve formed, and how they may be influencing your present. Through trauma-informed, mindfulness-based therapy, we’ll create space for insight, clarity, and new ways of thinking and being.

Body
Our bodies remember what the mind may forget. Emotions, stress, and past trauma can live in the body long after the moment has passed. Using somatic therapy and body-based counselling, we’ll tune into the wisdom of your nervous system. Together, we’ll listen to what your body carries, support emotional release, and restore a sense of balance and grounding.

Spirit
Your spirit is the source of meaning, purpose, and connection. It’s the part of you that longs to create, to be seen, and to feel a sense of alignment with your deeper values. Through counselling, we’ll explore what nourishes your soul and support you in reconnecting with your inner truth—whatever that may mean for you.

Relational
Healing rarely happens in isolation. It begins with how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. Whether you’re facing relationship stress, communication challenges, or cultural family expectations, we’ll explore how these dynamics shape your sense of belonging. This relational therapy process supports healthier boundaries, deeper intimacy, and more authentic connections.
